Guru Purnima 2018 : Guru Purnima is an Indian and Nepalese festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. This festival is traditionally celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists, to pay their respects to their teachers and express their gratitude. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July) of the Shaka Samvat, which is the known as Hindu calendar in India and Nepal. This day marks the first peak of the lunar cycle after the peak of the solar cycle.

Guru Purnima is national wide festival which is dedicated towards the Guru in this world. Guru word is used for the teacher who teaches anything to a learner. If we relate it to the ancient time, t is actually worshiping the Guru Vyasa who wrote the 4 Vedas. But in today time, it is all about worshiping your teacher and showing gratitude towards them for their impeccable hard work for teaching you.

आषाढ़ मास की पूर्णिमा को गुरु पूर्णिमा कहते हैं। इस दिन गुरु पूजा का विधान है। गुरु पूर्णिमा वर्षा ऋतु के आरम्भ में आती है। इस दिन से चार महीने तक परिव्राजक साधु-सन्त एक ही स्थान पर रहकर ज्ञान की गंगा बहाते हैं। ये चार महीने मौसम की दृष्टि से भी सर्वश्रेष्ठ होते हैं। न अधिक गर्मी और न अधिक सर्दी। इसलिए अध्ययन के लिए उपयुक्त माने गए हैं। जैसे सूर्य के ताप से तप्त भूमि को वर्षा से शीतलता एवं फसल पैदा करने की शक्ति मिलती है, वैसे ही गुरु-चरणों में उपस्थित साधकों को ज्ञान, शान्ति, भक्ति और योग शक्ति प्राप्त करने की शक्ति मिलती है।

यह दिन महाभारत के रचयिता कृष्ण द्वैपायन व्यास का जन्मदिन भी है। वे संस्कृत के प्रकांड विद्वान थे और उन्होंने चारों वेदों की भी रचना की थी। इस कारण उनका एक नाम वेद व्यास भी है। उन्हें आदिगुरु कहा जाता है और उनके सम्मान में गुरु पूर्णिमा को व्यास पूर्णिमा नाम से भी जाना जाता है। भक्तिकाल के संत घीसादास का भी जन्म इसी दिन हुआ था वे कबीरदास के शिष्य थे।
